Power can resort to various possibilities to demonstrate its influence. It can be a hard power (political, military), but also a soft power (fashion, literary, artistic…) Every field that can change the world and change history can be considered as a tool of power.
Although graffiti art has been considered as vandalism for a long time, since the 1960’s it has gained a lot of respect and value on the art market. (check the video for more information!)
Banksy is an English street artist but also a political activist. Banksy is a pseudo and his real identity still remains a secret. He paints and displays his art on publicly visible surfaces such as walls. He has won multiple awards for his influence on arts.
It all started with the Wall Street crash of September 1929. Stock market prices collapsed, and millions of American who had invested their fortune lost everything they had. This economic disaster challenged the concept of the American Dream. It was a rough time for all the American people.
A counter-power is capable of challenging / defying and potentially destructing the power of another. It is used to represent people who, most of the time, don’t have the opportunity to speak for themselves. It takes multiple forms from Gandhi’s Salt March or John’s Lennon’s song “Imagine”.

This poem, entitled I, too, sing America deals with African Americans whom he calls «the darker brother». The white Americans are portrayed dominating the black people. It tackles the issue of their unfair treatment and claims that they are as legitimate as white Americans.
